A few years ago there was a popular book on the market entitled, Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche. Aside from preventing a lot of men from ever ordering quiche again, the book spun off many tongue in cheek sayings about what “Real Men” do and don’t do. “Real Men” drink their coffee black, eat their steaks rare, and never stop to ask for directions. One of my favorites (because it is so much like me) was, “Real Men don’t need instruction manuals.” I have labored over too many projects longer than I needed to, or had to redo them entirely, simply because I didn’t read the instructions first.
God’s plan for us has always been to prosper us and give us abundant lives. He has told us that all we need to do is follow the instructions for life that he gives us and we will experience that abundant living. But before we can follow the instructions for life, we need to read the instruction manual. Before we can know God, we must read his autobiography. God has done his best to impress this fact on our minds when he has said things like this:
“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates,
so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the
LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.” ~ Deuteronomy 11:18-21
I am inviting all of you to read your Bible daily. God will bless us as we hide his Word in our hearts.
