Philippians 4:13

In this song, Steven Curtis Chapman refers to Paul’s statement in Philippians 4:13, I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.” But he also points out the error that Christians sometimes make by living as if the passage said, “I can do everything” or “I should do everything.” Two scenarios that are common to us are, (1) making all sorts of plans and then asking God to bless them, and (2) feeling guilty and beating ourselves up because we are not good enough. Both of these deny the power of God in our lives.

Paul, in his statement to the Philippians, was making the point clear that he was incapable of living a godly life on his own. It was only through the power of God that he could do anything worthwhile. Paul understood that all the good works that we bring to God amount to nothing more than filthy rags. But God, by His grace, has given us His righteousness, His purity, so we can stand before Him with confidence.

God Works Within Us

In addition to this righteousness that God gives, Paul was also keenly aware of the fact that God was living in him. As he lived a faithful, dependant life, Paul knew God would do incredible things through him. He wrote, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Ephesians 3:20

Conclusion

God has blessed our Murrieta Church. He is working in this valley and wants us to join in His work. Through our faithful dependence and obedience, God will do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine through us. Are you willing to let God use YOU to do great things?
